Don’t look back! You might turn into salt

Hey my loves, who is ready for a story? Its story time and I must say it is an interesting one. I hope it blesses you and I hope you learn something. Why don’t you grab yourself a cup of tea or a drink for the none tea drinkers and enjoy!

The title of this story is actually a phrase my auntie mattered while escorting my boys upstairs. My youngest just learnt how to climb up and down the stairs so he gets quite excited. While she was behind them as they made their way up, they kept looking back. Then she said ‘don’t look back you will turn into salt. As she spoke those words I couldn’t but laugh and repeat them as I followed behind.

It didn’t take long till I started thinking of what she said, it took me back to the story of Lot’s wife. Lot and his family were told to leave Sodom because God was about to destroy it. The Angels told them not to look back or stay in the valley (Genesis 19). Now if you read the story you find that Lot’s wife did look back and as a result, she turned into a pillar of salt, that was the end of her life. Why did she look back upon the warning from the angels? There are no specific reasons mentioned in the text. However, it could be because she loved the city and she was also thinking of all her wealth and material things she was leaving behind. I know there are many lessons from Lot’s wife articles I just wanted to add my own why not.

When my aunt mattered these words to my boys I actually started thinking about it. And I thank God for the Holy Spirit my teacher who shed some light on the matter. When Lot’s wife became a pillar of salt she became lifeless, unmovable, basically, she was a statue. Stand still! Instead of her looking forward and what was in front of her, instead of her heading to the voice of God and obeying she looked back just because maybe she thought of what she had left behind.
Now after all this a question dropped in my heart, how many of us are pillars of salt in some areas of our lives? Are we still looking back at the things that God has told us to leave behind? Are we still dwelling in the past? Like Lot’s wife, we could be pillars of salt and that is why we are not moving forward and seeing progress.

Disobedience is the reason why Lot’s wife turned into a pillar of salt. God gave instruction and she disobeyed, therefore, she turned to salt as a consequence of her disobedience. Disobedience will hold you back. For us to see the progress we need to look and focus on what is in front of us, not our past. We need to leave the past where it belongs, believe God and keep moving forward. Do not let your past mistakes, disappointments, achievements and whatever it may be to hold you down from going where God wants you to go. Some of us are still holding on to past achievements and accomplishments that happened that we still value ourselves by them. This doesn’t allow us to give room to the new things that God wants to do in our lives. They have made us pillars of salt- unmovable.

I am not saying you can’t make reference to past events; past events are for us to learn from and improve not for us to live there! Don’t live there its time to pack your bags and move. Don’t be like the Israelites even after God delivered them from the hands of Egypt they continued to look back and complain. I know sometimes when we are faced with challenges we can tend to look back and think it was better then. This only clouds our eyes that we refuse to see what God is doing and also most importantly what he has already done. Make up your mind that you will not live in your past but rather move forward and pay attention to what is in front of you. God is about to do a new thing, you won’t be able to see it if you keep looking back. A pillar will always hold you down! Do not become a pillar of salt.
